The medium of the water supply pipeline is tap water, drinking water, or reclaimed water, and the operating conditions are usually at room temperature and medium to low pressure. The core requirements are hygiene and safety, leakage prevention, and resistance to minor corrosion.

The pipeline media in chemical plants are complex, encompassing strong acids, strong alkalis, strong oxidizers, flammable and explosive gases/liquids, and toxic media. The operating conditions are often characterized by high temperature and high pressure, alternating high and low temperatures, and significant pressure fluctuations, which impose extremely high requirements on the corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, and safety redundancy of valves.
